Home Technology [at Home]

The beginning of technology in the home goes back further than we care to think about. However, most of us think of Home Tech and our thinking jots to electronics in the home. Which is right about where we’re headed with this one. Electrification of the home, the light bulb, getting away from the dangers of fire as our main source of light. Comforting. Those kinds of electronics. That kind of Home Tech. The kind that serves the home and serves a purpose. It’s usually convenient. Saves us time, and helps us get things done around the home.

Plug it in, and turn it on. That’s pleasant. Press the button and let’s get going. Push to start. Now that feels modern. Now we’re really hitting the gas. Not literally of course, but if you’ve ever ridden in an electric car you know what I mean. Feeling the power behind an appliance is pleasurable. It’s invigorating. Makes you feel like the job’s going to get done. Makes you feel, well, powerful. Being empowered in your own home to get more done than you would have gotten done without it. Now that feels good.

Smart-Home

These days, Home Tech has taken a new turn. It’s educated. It’s got a degree in doing stuff. No, not really. I’m just kidding. But really, Home Tech nowadays has so many new features. They’re so customizable. You can try out all the settings and get just the right configuration. It’s kind of fun, actually. Especially with a second opinion in the picture. Ooo, what does this button do? Oh, oh no. I don’t like that at all. Do not press this button. Oh, hmm . . . wait, I kind of like this one actually. Huh, interesting, but not for me. Wait . . . nope, next. Yeah, just keep going. Okay hold on, go back one setting. Stop. Hold it. That’s perfect. That’s the setting. I like this. That’s getting added to favorites. Wait, what? What do you mean you don’t like that one. I REALLY like that one. Well, I guess we can compromise. I guess I like your favorite too. Sometimes.

Tip tap, pitter patter, goes our fingers on our touchscreens. What’s the matter? Well I can just access it from the phone. Pretty cool, huh? It’s almost like a universal remote! Remember those? They seemed like science-fiction, back in the day. They didn’t really work, either. You know the one I’m talking about. The one with glitches that got thrown out. But anyways, with all these Apps and Smartphones, our homes certainly have graduated from the dial-up home computer being the center of command. Nowadays, that all converges in the phone in our hand. Smartphones for our Smart-Homes.

Other Home Tech

It better have Bluetooth. What’s the Wi-Fi password? What do you mean there’s no signal? I’ve got like, three bars. It says connecting . . . oh! That’s the spot. Put the signal booster there. Yeah, oh yeah. Let’s run the speed test. Wow, now that’s what I’m paying for. That’s real good.

With our own Wi-Fi, home networks, and Bluetooth features, our Home Technology has turned into a different creature. It’s of our own creation. It’s helps us think and seems to think for itself. Yeah, this App doesn’t need a hard drive it’s stored up in the cloud. No, not that kind of cloud, I mean like, yeah like iCloud. No this one has a different cloud. Whoa, I guess I don’t need a hard copy after all. That’s right. It’s up in space, bouncing off the satellite, a cell tower or two, and right back at you.
