Kitchen & Dining [at Home]
There’s nothing quite like a home-cooked meal. Hot off the stove or out of the oven. Fresh off the chopping block and into the frying pan. A sizzling supper. Don’t we all remember Mom’s home cooking? The fragrance of the fruits of her labor filling the air. The smell of her hard work, fully garnished with sensational seasonings and lots of love. A dazzling display of her magic in her moment. She’d make her movement through the kitchen and cooking look effortless. Like a carefully choreographed dance, she’d land all the right steps at just the right times.
The Dining Table would already be set. Each of our places at the table already lined with our favorite glasses and plates. Fitted with our own napkins and utensils. Knives and forks. Maybe even a spoon if Mom knew we’d need one. The hum of the hood range as the soft sounds of Mom in the Kitchen moving from station to station. The mouth-watering sight of the serving dishes being doled out. With eyes bigger than our stomachs, we’d ask for extra on our first helping. And the unforgettable glow of Mom’s smile as she filled each of our plates. With our glasses made full of our favorite drinks, one last step before we all ate. With Mom finally seated and all our eyes closed, at last it was grace.
Kitchen
Some of our fondest memories at home come from the Kitchen. Whether it was supper after a long day, or bright and early at the start. And even in the afternoon. Most of our meals come from the home Kitchen. The family’s favorite cookware enduring countless cook-offs. The ancient cutting board that seemed to last a lifetime. That set of knives used to prepare all the ingredients. And the appliances that held the home Kitchen together. The smokey stove covered with steaming pots and pans. The faithful oven for every beautiful oven bake. And the small everyday tools that seemed to fit perfectly along the way.
There’s also a lot of hard work that gets done in the home Kitchen. The origin of the tastiest treats. The place of some of Mom’s greatest feats. It’s a place of the utmost importance, to say the least. Sometimes we forget how invaluable a great Kitchen is, until it’s out of order. What a wonderful thing it is to have it fully functional. Every piece has its place. Each one, picked with purpose. Each one, standing the test of time. Whether it’s standard or fine.
Dining
Dinner at the Dining Table. Breakfast or brunch. Lunch or left overs. Table cloth covers for special suppers. Followed with delicate desserts. All eaten with those useful utensils. Our favorite forks. Our special spoons. Those no-nonsense knives. The helpful wares that made every meal work at home. That made our bellies full and our smiles show. Where we share stories and love. The place where there is loyalty and laughter. Where devotion does come true. A special place for me and you. And when our appetites are through and through, containers and containers of leftovers in the refrigerator too.
Memories with Mom, and our families too. Where we had guests join us on an occasion or two. Where our friends became family. And conversations got as loud as the zoo. The Dining Table is where a lot of special times were had. A place where the news was heard, happy or sad. But most importantly, it’s a special place that brings us all together. Together to eat. Together with grace. Where gratitude is shared, with happiness on each face.
