Organization & Storage [at Home]
There’s something about a neat arrangement of your belongings that brings peace of mind. Something that makes your eyes soften and thoughts slow down. Your mind stops scanning and eyes stop searching. They settle on the symmetry. Symmetrical storage. There’s something so attractive about symmetry. There’s a reason for this. Our minds, from a young age, develop pattern recognition. We grow up with our eyes wide open, and our minds an open book. A blank slate you could say. We learn to read between the lines and find the patterns. Patterns of thought. The pattern of memory.
When we organize our things, just the way we like it, our stress levels lower. It curbs our cortisol. The peace of mind comes from a place of physiology. The pattern we recognize is the pattern we remember. What we remember, we find familiar. Familiarity feels safe. The pattern we created organizes not only our belongings, but the thoughts that belong to us. Especially when we go looking for that special something. That thing I thought of that made me smile. The thing that fits tonight’s thoughts. That has me covered tomorrow. That was easier to remember today.
Organization
When we look at all that is organized, we feel confident we can find it. We’ve been here before. The thoughts snap into place and our eyes align with our thinking, without much thought. That was easy. There it is, right where I left it. Perfectly placed among my favorite things. There’s a certain satisfaction that comes from accessing our organized things. We feel efficient. We feel intelligent. We act with a speed that doesn’t feel rushed. Quickly and calmly, collecting everything on the checklist. Wow, what a wonderful world.
When our world is organized, our world revolves. It moves through the tasks before us with ease. Organizing our things becomes a pleasant purpose. It goes past the dullness of busywork and becomes therapeutic. Organization doesn’t just keep things tidy, it makes our lives easier the next time we visit the same space. It prepares us for the future, when we’ll need it most. It creates a sense of readiness that would otherwise be delay. Organization makes us mentally healthier in the future and today.
Storage
Storage. We usually think of Self-Storage immediately. That old dusty, poorly lit room with our relics of the past. That place Mom and Dad rented and put all the holiday must-haves in to clean out the garage that one year. With our old childhood favorites and blasts from the past. The walls barely visible with decades-old decor that almost touches the ceiling. Maybe a family heirloom or two. How could we forget about this?! A sight for sore eyes. Old family photographs and things we forgot about. But what if Storage had a new definition? What if Storage for yourself was something much more convenient? What if your Storage was part of your everyday activity? The kind that holds the pattern of organization together. That kind keeps our thoughts nice and tidy.
Storage for yourself is actually one of the most valuable ways to maintain organization. Not everything fits neatly into a box, but with the right equipment, everything falls into place. When properly maintained, nothing seems to fall out of order. The drawers are divided. The shoes are shelved. The shelves are shoppable. The bins and baskets are beautiful. The closet commands our clothes. And everything has its position in the pantry. Perfect.
